Entertaiment is an activity that includes elements of amusement, recreation and diversion. It can take the form of activities such as watching movies, going to concerts, social gatherings and sports events. The word entertainment derives from the Latin intertenere, where inter is “inside,” and tenere is to hold inside.
According to Oliver and Barstsch, entertainment can be defined objectively as a consumer activity that is understood by its audience, involves communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offers pleasure to the audience, requires audience passivity and occurs in a passive form. However, what is entertaining for one audience may not be entertained by another audience.
