The Importance of Tracking in Team Sport
Team sport is an activity that involves individuals in a group, aiming to achieve a common goal through collaboration and communication. It teaches kids to value the contributions of others, to be supportive and helpful to teammates and to be a team player rather than just a self-centered individual. It also teaches them to be more organized as they are often required to keep track of a minute-by-minute schedule. This is a valuable skill that they can apply in their everyday lives.
In terms of athletic performance, team sports require the development of a range of physical and cognitive abilities, including speed, power, agility, endurance, hand-eye coordination and balance. They are also a great way to improve an individual’s overall mental health. They teach kids how to cope with disappointment, exercise their problem-solving skills and develop a healthy relationship with competition.
Whether it’s listening to the locker room pep talk or picking up on non-verbal cues during practice, team athletes must communicate with their peers constantly. This teaches them how to speak and listen effectively, something that will help them in their academic endeavors as well.
As a result, there is a need to provide practitioners with descriptive information to aid in the planning and manipulation of training load in team sports. Consequently, a number of tracking systems have been developed, utilising either the impulse-response or the training load-risk model [38]. Furthermore, the use of spatiotemporal data, integrated with tactical context, can allow for the description of competitive characteristics such as space occupation and off-the-ball scoring opportunities.
